However, you can lower it through killing pirates, certain events and most of all, turning in cryo frozen prisoners. Currently the only objective is to kill 7 bosses. more sectors or distinct sectors, they all play the same crew to buy at level 1 (v annoying to only be presented with crew that have skills you don't want).

All have the same max energy, shields, weapon power etc. starting conditions are different but most ships are basically the same. fire suppression system, crew quarters, shield nulifier, warp drive to jump bigger distances, there are lots of options. more ship rooms to buy, currently only 4. Won't be playing again until they add a good bit more to the game. Tried all the different weapon types and combos. at 22.8 hours i've unlocked all the ships, played maybe 4-5 runs of the free roam mode, unlocked 77% of weapons and 55% of achievements.
